RuneScape: Dragonwilds Skills and Milestone Unlocks
Attack, gathering, artisan crafts, Agility, and the level 99 cap raised with Dowdun Reach.
Skills in RuneScape: Dragonwilds train by doing the thing, the same way RuneScape always has. Hit with a club and Attack moves. Chop an Ash tree and Woodcutting moves. Place a wall and Construction moves. Open K to see the full track. Caps sit at 99 after the Dowdun Reach update; earlier Early Access builds stopped most tracks at 40 or 50. You do not need 99 in everything to see Velgar, but you do need the spells that delete chores.
The live list is Attack, Magic, Ranged, Mining, Woodcutting, Farming, Fishing, Runecrafting, Construction, Artisan, Cooking, and Agility. Prayer is a future skill; Jagex has said it arrives after Kuldra’s saga, not inside the 1.0 raid window. Rank the combat tracks on the skills tier list and pair them with a melee, magic, or ranged build so XP is not wasted on a dead-end weapon.
Combat tracks
Attack covers melee. Level 5 unlocks Parry: block at the last moment, stagger the enemy, and hit harder while they recover. Level 8 unlocks melee specials on middle mouse. Level 11 unlocks Tempest Shield, an air-magic block that eats damage for a few seconds and bursts when it ends. Level 16 is Weapon Expertise, extra attacks on every melee weapon. Level 20 is Enchant Weapon: Fire, which spends Fire and Astral runes to burn on crits. Later milestones add Adaptability and an air enchant that speeds the swing.
Magic levels by dealing damage with staves and combat spells. Ranged levels with bows. Both tracks have their own spell walls — snares, spectral arrows, armour enchants — but the early bottleneck is still Attack 5 Parry if you stand in front of goblins. Pick one combat style to push first. Hybrid XP is slow.
Prayer is listed as coming later. Do not plan a protection-prayer rotation for Velgar or Kuldra. Antipoison, food, and positioning do that job today.
Gathering tracks
Mining is the other early rush. Level 5 Lift With Your Hips cuts the weight of stone, clay, and sand by a quarter. Level 11 Rocksplosion is the ore-delete spell; bind it on Q. Level 20 lets you mine crumbled walls, which is how several vault shortcuts and Highlands routes open. Keep a pickaxe one metal tier above the region you are in.
Woodcutting 20 lets you chop thorny vines that gate vault mouths and cliff paths, especially in Stormtouched Highlands. Earlier Woodcutting milestones add Overhead Chop for fallen logs and Axtral Projection, the spectral axe that drops a line of trees. Farming and Fishing feed cooking and potions. A small plot next to the Bramblemead house stops you from hunting rats at Power Level 4.
Runecrafting is the quiet tax. Air and Astral runes appear in the tutorial. Fire runes appear when you need a furnace. Law runes at 16 replace goblin-sack gambling for lodestone hops. Earth and Nature runes feed Artisan spells. A rune altar belongs in the first house even if you never plan to main a mage.
Construction and Artisan
Construction is XP from placing pieces, not from chopping. Level 3 unlocks medium pieces, 5 unlocks small pieces, 8 unlocks triangular pieces — the ranks that let a box hut take a roof. Level 11 is Eye of Oculus, a fly-cam build spell that costs Astral runes. Level 16 unlocks furniture. Level 18 unlocks Oak pieces. Level 20 is Summon Shelter. Level 40 is Personal Chest, remote storage for 20 Law and 15 Astral runes. The building guide is the practical version of this paragraph.
Artisan levels by crafting tools, weapons, and armour. Level 11 Bark to Bones transmutes a tree into a bone stack, which feeds clubs and later recipes when deer are scarce. Level 20 Superheat empowers fire stations so kilns and furnaces finish faster. Level 27 Magical Mending repairs gear on the ground with Nature and Earth runes. Cast Superheat every time you dump a bronze or iron load.
Cooking levels on the campfire and later ranges. You will hit Cooking 20 by eating, not by grinding, as long as you never eat raw meat.
Agility and the 99 cap
Agility is the traversal skill Jagex moved forward during Early Access. It trains on courses and on moving through the world. Treat it as a support skill, not a combat replacement. The dedicated Agility guide covers courses, double jump, Windstep, and Kebbit Burrows.
Dowdun Reach raised every cap to 99 and backfilled extra unlocks and skillcapes. The curve from 92 to 99 was later steepened. If you are chasing capes, budget a long mithril and adamant stretch. The region walkthrough is the order of those stretches.
What to rush in the first week
Attack 5 Parry, Mining 11 Rocksplosion, Woodcutting 11 Axtral Projection, Construction 11 Eye of Oculus, Artisan 11 Bark to Bones. That set turns the valley from a chore into a loop. Next: Mining 20 crumbled walls, Woodcutting 20 vines, Construction 20 Summon Shelter, Artisan 20 Superheat. Combat 20 enchants wait until you have a metal weapon worth coating.
In co-op, one person lives on Construction and one lives on Runecrafting. Combat XP can split melee, range, and mage. Solo players should still pick a combat main and keep gathering high enough to feed it. The skills tier list is the short ranking; this page is the unlock list you check before a new biome.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the skill cap in RuneScape: Dragonwilds?
99 in every live skill after the Dowdun Reach update. Prayer is not in the live list yet. You do not need 99 to fight Velgar, but several chore-delete spells sit at 11 and 20.
Which skill should I level first?
Mining and Woodcutting to 11 for Rocksplosion and Axtral Projection, Attack to 5 for Parry, and Construction to 11 for Eye of Oculus. Then follow the skills tier list.
When does Prayer come out?
Prayer is a future skill. Jagex has placed it after Kuldra's saga rather than inside the 1.0 raid on 15 September 2026. Do not plan protection prayers for current bosses.
Does Construction give XP for chopping trees?
No. Construction XP comes from placing pieces and furniture. Chopping trains Woodcutting. Dump excess stone into barrels and walls if you need Construction levels fast.
Where do I spend combat XP after the first 20 levels?
On a dedicated melee, magic, or ranged build so enchants and armour sets line up with the region walkthrough.
