RuneScape: Dragonwilds Building and Base Stations
Ghost Mode, roofs that let you sleep, and the station order that lasts from bone to adamant.
Press B to build. That is the whole tutorial, and it is also how you lose an afternoon to a roof that will not snap. RuneScape: Dragonwilds treats Construction as a real skill: XP comes from placing pieces, not from chopping the trees that feed them. Put the main house in Bramblemead Valley. Threat is low, Ash logs are close, and every later lodestone hop should point home. Do not build the hall in a Garou patrol or in Bloodblight fog because the screenshot looked dramatic.
This page is the station order and the roof rules. The skills guide lists Construction unlocks. The getting started guide is the first hut. The region walkthrough tells you when to add a kiln or a mithril forge.
Ghost Mode and Eye of Oculus
Ghost Mode places transparent pieces before you have the materials. Blueprint the rectangle, count the logs, then fill ghosts with E when the crates arrive. It is the difference between a planned 3x5 and a zigzag of leftover walls. Free placement (Y) helps on slopes where snap fights you. T repairs. Esc cancels. Middle mouse deletes a mistake.
Construction 11 unlocks Eye of Oculus, a fly-cam build spell that costs Astral runes. Cast it from Q. Roofs, second storeys, and anything you cannot see from the floor become honest. Without Oculus you will place floating tiles and call it a balcony. With it, you can hang a roof in one pass. Keep Astral runes in the house chest; the cooldown is short and you will recast constantly.
Construction 3 / 5 / 8 unlock medium, small, and triangular pieces. 16 adds furniture. 18 adds Oak. 20 is Summon Shelter. 40 is Personal Chest. You need 11 before a second floor, not 40 to beat Velgar.
Roof, sleep, and the furnace exception
A bed roll only works under a roof. No roof, no sleep, no reliable respawn. Foundations, walls, then roof tiles. Walls have to exist before the roof will snap; floating hats are decoration. Most crafting stations also want cover: tannery, spinning wheel, brewing cauldron, and several benches refuse to work in the rain of a missing tile.
The furnace is the exception. It needs open sky. Park it in a courtyard or against an outer wall with nothing above the chimney. If you roof it, it will not smelt. Blast furnaces later follow the same heat-and-smoke logic. Build the house, leave a fenced yard, put fire stations in the yard. Details on shards and the 24 Stone / 8 Clay / 4 Charcoal / 10 Fire Runes / 8 Vault Shards recipe live in the vaults guide.
Summon Shelter at Construction 20 is a temporary roof when sunscorch, night, or a failed expedition catches you. It is not a replacement for the Bramblemead hall. Use it in Umbral Sands, then hop home.
Station priority
Build in this order, not in the order the catalogue scrolls:
- Bed roll under a roof — respawn and night skip.
- Campfire — food and clean water.
- Crafting table — tools, bone gear, the first weapons.
- Tannery (after a spinning wheel for Coarse Thread) — leather for Reinforced.
- Kiln — charcoal and clay vessels, once Whispering Swamp has paid in clay.
- Furnace — unroofed, for bronze and every metal after.
- Smithing forge — Challenge Horn, metal weapons, later masterworks.
- Rune altar — Air, Astral, Fire, Law. The house should never run out of Law Runes because someone forgot the altar.
- Lodestone — 32 Stone, 20 Rune Essence, 1 Vault Core, in the yard or the hall, not inside a vault.
After that: brewing cauldron, grindstone, fletching bench, armour bench, farming plots, chests, and barrels. Barrels are Construction XP with a purpose. Dump excess stone into barrels and extra walls instead of dropping it on the grass. Mining 5 already cut stone weight; the leftover still clogs the pack.
Layout that lasts
A 3x5 or 4x4 hall with a courtyard is enough from bone to adamant. Put storage and beds upstairs once Oculus is online. Put noisy, dirty stations (furnace, kiln, forge) in the yard so you are not running through smoke to reach the altar. Put the lodestone where a panicked teammate can see it from the road. Light the door. Goblins still wander Bramblemead.
Do not move house every region. Plant a lodestone at the new mine, crate the ore, hop home, smelt in the yard you already lit. Outposts can be a roof, a bed, a chest, and a stone. The hall stays in the valley. That is how a starter base lasts to endgame without a second Construction 40 grind.
In co-op, one player should main Construction. Ghost the plan, then let everyone fill pieces so XP is not stranded on the host. Agree on chest rules before someone crafts the last bronze bars into a door. Repair with T before a wall falls. Magical Mending at Artisan 27 is the spell version for tools. Build the hall once, roof it properly, and leave the furnace to the sky.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Where should I build the main house?
Bramblemead Valley. Threat is low, Ash logs are close, and later lodestones should point home. Do not plant the hall in a high-level region just to be closer to ore.
Why can I not sleep in my bed roll?
It needs a roof. Place foundations and walls, snap roof tiles, then put the bed inside. Unroofed rolls will not skip night or set a reliable respawn.
Does the furnace need a roof?
No. The furnace must sit under open sky. Put it in a courtyard. Other stations such as the tannery want cover. See the vaults guide for the shard recipe.
When do I get Eye of Oculus?
Construction 11. It costs Astral runes and lets you build from a fly-cam. Unlock it before you start a second storey. The skills guide lists the rest of the Construction track.
