RuneScape: Dragonwilds Fight Caves and Fire Cape

Thirty waves, a second Fuzan, and the cape you wear into 1.0.

Fight Caves and Fire Cape

The Fight Caves are the endurance check of Umbral Sands. They sit at the Burning Spire after you have already beaten Fuzan in the story. The reward is the Fire Cape, a trophy cape that matches the Obsidian Cape in bulk stats and outranks it in pride. If you are still in mithril from Dowdun Reach, stop. Finish the Umbral Sands guide first: adamant, red dragonhide or Infinity, sunscorch habits, and the story kill.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds entered Steam Early Access on 15 April 2025. The Caves shipped with the desert in June 2026. They are live content, not a 1.0 spoiler. Use them as raid practice. A party that cannot sit through 30 waves will not sit through the Scorned Wilderness on 15 September 2026.

Unlock the pedestal

You cannot start the Fire Cape trial on first visit. Complete Icthlarin’s Little Helper (or the desert story chain that leads to the Spire) and defeat Fuzan in the story version of the lair. Then return to the arena, walk to the central pedestal, and read the two options carefully:

  • Fight Cave — the 30-wave endurance event that ends with Fuzan again. This is the Fire Cape path.
  • Fuzan’s Path — a shorter ~10-wave route back to the boss if you only want to farm him.

Pick Fight Cave. Fuzan’s Path does not grant the cape. After the 30th wave the inner door unlocks and you fight Fuzan with the same tells you already learned. Repeat clears give extra Fire Capes, not a second unique drop, unless a rare Imaru-style drop appears later.

What to pack

This is a 40–70 minute sit, not a vault sprint. Food now heals a chunk of hitpoints on eat after the 0.12 health rework; healing potions are gone. Stack cooked fish, meat, and anything with stamina or hydration. Tea and water matter because energy collapse ends a run faster than a Tok-Xil volley. Repair kits or Magical Mending keep the weapon you actually brought.

Gear floor is Power Level 7 desert kit: adamant weapons, red dragonhide or Infinity cloth, a shield if you melee, and an antifire potion for Fuzan. A hybrid bag works: crossbow or Crystal Bow for waves, a crush stick for Tok-Xil armour, a staff for free heals if you trained Magic. The ranged and magic pages explain kite kits; melee is the person who holds the floor when a wave stacks on the pillar.

Do not bring a Power Level 4 Abysmal Whip and expect to cruise. Jagex moved the true Abyssal Whip to a Power Level 7 masterwork whose recipe sits in the shadow of this same Spire. If you have not found that recipe yet, use adamant steel instead. See the weapons tier list.

Waves and the safe ledge

Waves 1–19 are trash management. Keep moving, do not tunnel the biggest monster, and reset energy between packs. Wave 20 is the first Tok-Xil check. Wave 25 stacks KotHaar Kal. Wave 30 doubles Tok-Xil before the door. Orange spots on lava trolls are crit points. If a wave feels unfair, you are standing in the open.

The easiest method circulating in the community is the ledge by Fuzan’s door: a thin shelf on the right-hand spire. Jump onto it. Most melee waves cannot path up. From there you chip with a bow special, water magic, or a long-range staff. Durability still ticks, so repair. This is not a skip of Fuzan — you still drop for the boss — but it turns the 30-wave tax from a wipe factory into a supply test.

Fuzan, then the cape

Fuzan’s mechanics match the story fight. Drink antifire before the door. His flame breath is a one-shot if you stand in it; hide behind a pillar, then punish. Claws punish melee greed. Ranged and magic have an easier time as long as stamina and hydration stay up. When he dies, the Fire Cape recipe lands in Key Items. Craft it at camp. Stats sit next to the Obsidian Cape; you wear it because you earned it, not because it replaces adamant plate.

In co-op one player can sit the ledge while another holds adds, but the pedestal is a group commitment: a wipe after wave 28 wastes 50 minutes for four people. Agree on food, who drinks antifire, and who calls the door.

How this feeds 1.0

The Kuldra guide assumes you can move while a dragon is in the air. The Caves teach that. Nightmare Crucible next door is the shorter repeatable for materials. Finish both, then look at the 1.0 launch page. The Scorned Wilderness raid is a different instance, but the same player: fed, repaired, and not surprised by a breath telegraph.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I start the Fire Cape trial?

Beat story Fuzan first. Return to the Burning Spire pedestal and choose Fight Cave, not Fuzan's Path. The 30-wave event ends with a second Fuzan fight and the cape recipe.

Is there a safe spot for the waves?

Yes. Jump onto the thin ledge on the right-hand spire by Fuzan's door. Most melee waves cannot path up. You still drop for the boss.

Does the Fire Cape beat adamant armour?

No. It is a trophy cape with Obsidian-like bulk. Wear it for the flex. Keep adamant, red hide, or Infinity as your real defence.

Can I farm Fuzan without 30 waves?

Yes. Choose Fuzan's Path on the pedestal for the shorter ~10-wave route. That path does not grant the Fire Cape.
