RuneScape: Dragonwilds Tier Lists

Power level versus region, not fake DPS charts — late Early Access ranks with a 1.0 retune warning.

Last updated:

This hub ranks RuneScape: Dragonwilds gear and unlocks for late Early Access. Jagex opened Steam Early Access on 15 April 2025 and scheduled 1.0 for 15 September 2026. Numbers will move. We still publish ranks because you need an order of operations: what to craft before Velgar, what to replace in Fellhollow, and what can wait until the Scorned Wilderness raid on Kuldra, the endgame dragon queen of Ashenfall.

We do not publish fake DPS tables. A Power Level 4 iron sword in the Fractured Plains is not “worse” than a Power Level 7 adamant greataxe if you have not reached Umbral Sands. Rank here means region appropriateness, vault clear speed, special-attack uptime, and whether a piece still matters when a named dragon is on the field.

Power level versus region

Ashenfall is gated by biomes. Gear climbs with the map:

  1. Stone and wood in the first hour.
  2. Bone and Reinforced leather once you hunt Bramblemead wildlife.
  3. Bronze plus the Anti-Dragon Shield for Whispering Swamp vaults.
  4. Iron plus the Dragonblight Shield for Velgar.
  5. Steel through Fellhollow.
  6. Mithril, blue dragonhide, and mystic robes in Dowdun Reach.
  7. Adamant, red dragonhide, and Infinity robes in Umbral Sands.
  8. Rune, black dragonhide, and Ancestral robes at 1.0.

If a weapon sits two power levels under the region, vaults sponge hits. If it matches, you farm. That is the S / A / B split on the weapons tier list and the armor tier list. Read those pages as a shopping list for the biome you are standing in, not as a forever meta.

Skills cap at 99. You do not need 99 Attack to clear a bronze vault; you need the stick to match the room. Online co-op is one to four players, or up to six on a dedicated server. Mix styles if you want — nobody should enter a new region in last-biome gear.

Special attacks and combat style

Combat is three styles: melee through the Attack skill, magic, and ranged. You either hold a one-hander plus shield or commit to a two-hander. Special attacks unlock at Attack 8. Parry unlocks at Attack 5 and is why a bronze shield still works on goblins and Garou. Tempest Shield at Attack 11 is the panic button for melee players who walk into a vault archon without a ranged swap.

Those milestones sit on the skills tier list. We rank the unlock, not the skill as an MMO spec. Mining 11 Rocksplosion is S-tier because it deletes the bronze and iron grind. Cooking is B-tier because a slightly better stew will not beat Velgar. Construction 11 Eye of Oculus is S-tier because a bad roof wastes more real time than any goblin camp.

Turn a letter grade into a loadout on the melee, magic, and ranged builds. A flying dragon is never “everyone standing under the hitbox.”

Vaults, Velgar, Fuzan, and Kuldra

Dragonkin vaults are the gear check before any dragon. Crush-friendly clubs farm early South Temple Woods faster than a pretty bronze dagger. Later vaults care about Power Level and Law Runes for the walk home. When a Bone Club is B-tier overall but excellent in vaults, that is the criterion: minutes to a Vault Core, not a dummy parse.

Velgar, the poison dragon on Dragon Slayer, wants Power Level 4 iron, antipoison, and a bow that can punish flight windows. Crystal Bow and iron arrows show up in A-tier for that fight even if melee mains never keep the bow equipped afterward.

Fuzan in Umbral Sands is a kite-and-burst check. Ranged and magic with adamant-tier tools hold up; under-geared melee eats sunscorch.

Kuldra is the endgame dragon queen. Her raid is the 1.0 centerpiece, not an Early Access farm. Rankings that mention rune, black dragonhide, or Ancestral robes are prep lists, not current-drop tables. Do not stall Fellhollow or Dowdun waiting for 1.0 metal.

How to read S, A, and B

  • S: Craft this as soon as the region allows. It carries the next boss or vault loop.
  • A: Correct for the region, but you will replace it one biome later, or it is a specialist swap (Velgar bow, bronze stepping stone).
  • B: Correct for a tutorial room or a specific enemy (Bone Club versus vault guardians, stone club before you tan leather). Plan the upgrade; do not vendor-panic.

The Challenge Horn is not a weapon. It is a Dragon Slayer quest item you place on Velgar’s altar. If a tooltip makes it look like a horn you swing, ignore that instinct.

1.0 will retune this

Jagex has already flagged the Abyssal Whip moving toward a higher power band at 1.0, with a weaker Bloodblight drop filling the old slot. Steel through rune numbers will get another pass when Prayer and the Scorned Wilderness ship. Treat every list on this hub as late-Early-Access advice, then re-check after 15 September 2026.

Start with weapons if you are dying in vaults, armor if dragon breath is deleting you, and skills if ore rocks eat your day. Then pick a build and stay on one style long enough to unlock its spells.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How is this Dragonwilds tier list ranked?

By region power level, vault clear speed, special-attack access, and whether a piece still matters on Velgar, Fuzan, or Kuldra. We do not publish fake DPS tables. See the weapons, armor, and skills lists.

Should I wait for 1.0 before following these ranks?

No. Early Access from 15 April 2025 through the 15 September 2026 1.0 window still needs bronze, iron, and adamant in order. 1.0 will retune numbers and add rune, black dragonhide, and Ancestral robes for the Kuldra raid.

Do I pick a class before I open a tier list?

Dragonwilds has combat styles, not locked classes. Power level on the weapon and armor you are wearing matters more than a name. Start from the melee, magic, or ranged build, then shop this hub.

Is the Challenge Horn a high-tier weapon?

No. It is a Dragon Slayer quest item used on Velgar’s altar. Rank real weapons on the weapons tier list.
