RuneScape: Dragonwilds Dragonwilds Weapons Tier List
S through B by region, vault speed, and named dragons — not a dummy parse.
This is the late-Early-Access weapons ranking for RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Jagex opened Steam Early Access on 15 April 2025 and scheduled 1.0 for 15 September 2026. Tooltips will move. We rank by whether a weapon fits the region you are in, how fast it clears Dragonkin vaults, and whether it still works on Velgar, Fuzan, or the 1.0 Kuldra raid — not by a fake DPS spreadsheet.
Combat is three styles: melee (Attack), magic, and ranged. Pair a one-hander with a shield or commit to a two-hander. Special attacks unlock at Attack 8, Parry at Attack 5, Tempest Shield at Attack 11. Pair this list with the armor tier list so you are not swinging mithril in leather, and with the melee, ranged, and magic builds so the weapon matches a plan.
How the letters work
S means craft it as soon as the biome allows. A means it is correct for the region, or a specialist swap you will replace later. B is a tutorial or vault-room tool, not a forever stick.
Power levels climb with the region walkthrough: stone and wood, bone, bronze, iron, steel in Fellhollow, mithril in Dowdun Reach, adamant in Umbral Sands, then rune at 1.0. Skip a metal and vaults feel spongy. Match the metal and you farm.
S-tier
Abyssal Whip (masterwork, Power Level 7 at 1.0). Jagex’s 28 August 2026 note moves the real whip to a Power Level 7 masterwork for 1.0. The recipe is found in Umbral Sands, in the shadow of the Burning Spire, not from the first Abyssal Demon kill. Bleed, reach, and Abyssal Snare still define the kit. Block stays poor versus a mace-and-shield, so swap when you need crush. Until that 1.0 craft, treat the live Bloodblight drop as the Abysmal Whip: Power Level 4, no special, a placeholder that replaces existing Abyssal Whips you already own. Abyssal Demons still drop the Spine plus Tier 4 upgrade shards. Rank the true whip S for the 1.0 loop; rank the Abysmal Whip as a Bloodblight A-tier until you reach the Sands.
Mithril and adamant two-handers. Greataxes and greatswords in these metals are the clean S-tier if you hate whip timing. They hit the Dowdun and Umbral power bands and stagger vault sentinels. You give up a shield, so Parry is gone and Tempest Shield covers mistakes. In co-op the two-hander player should not also soak dragon breath.
High-tier staves. Once Magic is trained past the ash-and-oak nursery, staff of light-style options and later blightwood / draconic / masterwork staves become S-tier for mage kills. A staff is two-handed, so you cannot hide behind Dragonblight. Rank it by Magic skill and rune supply, not by the wood type on day two.
A-tier
Iron and steel weapons. Iron is the Velgar line. Swords, maces, and iron two-handers are the correct Power Level 4 kit for Dragon Slayer. Steel takes over in Fellhollow. These are A-tier because they are mandatory for their regions and because you will replace them the moment mithril or adamant opens. Do not skip them to “save bars.” The Dragon Slayer guide is not optional.
Crystal Bow and iron bows with iron arrows. Velgar spends a lot of the fight in the air. A Crystal Bow, or a well-fed iron / blightwood bow dumping iron arrows, is A-tier for that fight and for any dragon that refuses to land. Melee mains should still craft one. It is not your Bramblemead farm weapon; it is the swap you pull when wings open.
Bronze as a stepping stone. Bronze swords, maces, and the bronze greatsword are A-tier in Whispering Swamp and a trap if you still hold them in the Highlands. Craft them, clear the swamp vault, learn the Anti-Dragon Shield, then move on. Bronze exists so you can reach iron.
B-tier
Bone Club. Vaults. Crush damage folds early Dragonkin guardians faster than a stone dagger. Craft it after Bramblemead bones, run South Temple Woods, then retire it when bronze is online. Overall B, situational S for that one job.
Stone club. Tutorial only. Replace it the moment bone or bronze exists. If you are still swinging stone in a named vault, you skipped a crafting table.
The Challenge Horn is not a weapon
The Challenge Horn is a Dragon Slayer quest item. You smith it from bronze bars, a dragon tooth, and Bloodwood sap, then place it on the altar at Velgar’s Rise. It does not belong in an S-tier weapon slot.
One-hand versus two-hand
One-hand plus shield is the default for Velgar melee and for anyone who wants Parry. Two-hand is the default once mithril and adamant greataxes come online, or once you accept that Tempest Shield is your only panic button. Magic never gets a shield on a staff. Ranged never gets a shield on a bow or crossbow. Plan the armor around that: plate for the person who blocks, dragonhide or robes for the people who kite.
Crossbows with adamant bolts sit with the late ranged climb, not with the Bramblemead shortbow. The bow you can supply is always better than the crossbow you starve.
Skills to 99 do not replace power level. Train Attack far enough to unlock specials and Parry, then spend the real hours on the metal in your hand. Until 15 September 2026, craft to the biome you can walk into today.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best weapon in Dragonwilds right now?
For late Early Access melee, the Abyssal Whip and mithril or adamant two-handers sit in S. For Velgar, an iron kit plus a Crystal Bow or iron arrows is the real answer. Read the ranks above, not a single “best” icon.
Is the Challenge Horn a weapon I should rank?
No. It is a Dragon Slayer quest item placed on Velgar’s altar. Craft it when the Dragon Slayer guide asks, then fight with iron and a bow.
Should I skip bronze and rush iron?
No. Bronze is the Whispering Swamp stepping stone. Vaults and the Anti-Dragon Shield expect that power band. The walkthrough is the order; this list is the shopping note.
Will 1.0 change this weapons list?
Yes. Jagex scheduled 1.0 for 15 September 2026, with rune gear and a whip retune already announced. Use these letters for current Early Access, then check again after that window.
Do magic staves count as S-tier?
High-tier staves do once Magic is trained and you can feed runes. Ash staves in the first valley do not. See the magic build for the robe and rune side of that climb.
