RuneScape: Dragonwilds Dragonwilds Skill Milestone Ranks

We rank unlocks that delete chores, not Attack versus Magic as MMO specs.

Last updated:

This page ranks skill milestones in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, not the skills as if they were MMO combat specializations. Attack, Magic, and Ranged are three ways to hit things. Mining 11 is how you stop spending an evening on copper. Mixing those ideas is how players stall in Bramblemead.

Jagex has the game in Steam Early Access from 15 April 2025, with 1.0 scheduled for 15 September 2026. The skill cap is 99. You do not need 99 in anything to see Velgar. You do need the spells that delete chores, and you need the combat unlocks that make a shield more than a wooden lid. Full training notes live on the skills guide. Loadouts live on the builds hub. Region order lives on the walkthrough.

Prayer is still future content. Do not plan a “pray flick Velgar” kit. Rank what exists.

How we grade a milestone

S means the unlock pays for itself the same day you get it, on every account, in every combat style. A means it is a strong quality-of-life spike you should schedule, but you can beat the next vault without it. B means it makes Ashenfall more comfortable — food, farms, traversal — without changing boss math.

We do not put Magic above Attack on this list. Those are build choices. A mage with no Law Runes still walks home. A melee player with no Parry still eats goblin hits. The milestone is the thing we grade.

Online co-op (one to four, or six on a dedicated server) lets you split Runecrafting and Construction. Solo players just take longer.

S-tier milestones

Mining 11 — Rocksplosion. Earth and fire runes plus a pickaxe in the inventory. The spell harvests a cluster of rocks in one cast. Bronze, iron, and every later ore vein becomes a combat-adjacent chore instead of a second job. If you only rush one gathering unlock, rush this. Later Mining perks expand the burst; 11 is the one that changes the game.

Woodcutting — Axtral Projection, and level 20 vines. Axtral Projection is the tree version of Rocksplosion. Level 20 vine handling matters because Ashenfall hangs resources and traversal off plants you cannot ignore. Together they feed Construction, bows, staves, and camp roofs.

Construction 11 — Eye of Oculus. Base-building without this spell is snapping roofs by guesswork. With it, you place a real house in Bramblemead, sleep under cover, and park stations where you can see the grid. Put the house in the valley, not on a Garou patrol.

Runecrafting for Law, Fire, and Astral. Law Runes are fast travel. Fire Runes feed Rocksplosion, weapon enchants, and a pile of combat kits. Astral Runes sit in the better utility recipes. Goblin sacks will drip-feed you early, but the altar is the only way a mage or a lodestone addict stays solvent. If you cannot hop lodestones, you are hiking, not exploring.

Attack 5 — Parry. Block at the last moment, stagger, hit harder. Wooden shield, then leather, then bronze. Vault guardians and Garou stop being “trade hits until someone dies.” Special attacks still wait until Attack 8; Tempest Shield waits until 11. Parry is the one you have before the first real vault.

A-tier milestones

Artisan — Superheat and Magical Mending. Superheat turns ore into bars without treating the furnace like a second base. Magical Mending keeps power-level gear in the fight instead of on a repair anvil in another region. You can brute-force bars and repairs; you will just hate the clock. Once Fire and Astral income exists, these two spells are how late metals stay equipped.

Construction 20 — Summon Shelter. A placed house is still better. A summoned shelter is how you stop dying to weather in a biome you have not claimed yet. A-tier for exploration, not a replacement for Eye of Oculus at camp.

Mining 20 — crumbled walls. Vaults and ruins hide rooms behind walls your pickaxe can now treat as content. Optional loot and shortcuts, not skippable forever. If a vault feels like a dead end, check whether Mining 20 is the missing key.

B-tier milestones

Cooking, Farming, and Fishing. Survival meters are real, but these skills are B on a combat list because they do not change Fuzan’s hitbox. Cook at a roofed fire, farm near camp, and fish when you are already in the biome.

Agility for traversal. Agility arrived later in Early Access as a way to move through Ashenfall rather than as a damage spec. Rank it B for combat and useful when a region gate is an obvious climb. Train it after Parry and Rocksplosion.

Combat skills are still not specs

Train Attack, Magic, and Ranged on the style you actually use. Specials at Attack 8 and Tempest Shield at Attack 11 belong on melee builds. Do not spread combat XP three ways in solo.

The 99 cap is a long-term ceiling, not a Velgar requirement. Push a skill to the next named unlock, then swap to whatever the walkthrough says the region needs.

Prayer is still future. Do not hoard bones for a book that is not in the skill list.

Train S-tier first, schedule A-tier when you enter a new metal, and let B-tier fill camp downtime.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Which Dragonwilds skill should I train first?

Rush Mining 11 Rocksplosion, Woodcutting’s Axtral Projection, Construction 11 Eye of Oculus, and Attack 5 Parry. Details and recipes sit on the skills guide.

Is Magic better than Attack on this tier list?

Neither skill is ranked as an MMO spec here. Pick a style on the builds hub and train that combat skill. This page ranks chore-deleting milestones.

Do I need 99 in a skill for Velgar or Kuldra?

No. The cap is 99, but Dragon Slayer cares about iron-tier gear and antipoison. Kuldra is 1.0 raid prep. Follow the walkthrough power ladder.

Is Prayer in the game?

Not yet. Jagex still lists Prayer as future content. Do not plan a prayer-based Velgar kit during Early Access.

Can co-op partners split skill training?

Yes. One to four players in a session, or up to six on a dedicated server, can specialise Runecrafting versus Construction. Each body still wants Parry or a ranged/magic equivalent for the content they fight.
