RuneScape: Dragonwilds Region Walkthrough and Progression

Bramblemead to the Scorned Wilderness: gear tiers, vaults, and the bosses that gate each biome.

Region Walkthrough and Progression

Ashenfall is a continent you climb, not a map you wander. Each region raises the Power Level, the metal tier, and the thing that kills you if you arrive early. This walkthrough is the spine of the wiki. Keep the progression checklist open while you play; it is the short form of the same route. Desert details sit on the Umbral Sands guide; the Fire Cape sits on the Fight Caves guide. RuneScape: Dragonwilds entered Steam Early Access on 15 April 2025. 1.0 is scheduled for 15 September 2026 with the Scorned Wilderness raid. Everything before that raid is playable now as Early Access regions, not as a finished 1.0 campaign.

Bramblemead Valley

Starter nursery after Temple Woods. Goblins, deer, and cows. Build the house here: low threat, water, Ash trees, and a short walk to the first vaults. Finish First Steps with the Wise Old Man, tan leather, and craft Reinforced armour plus a Bone Club. Do not plant the main base in a Garou patrol further north. Details sit in the getting started guide.

Power Level 2 is the goal: bone, leather, a house lodestone, and Law Runes from goblin sacks.

Whispering Swamp

Clay, fog, and slow water. Mine clay on the eastern banks, build a kiln, and start charcoal. Spitfoot’s vault (Vertentis Kara) is the swamp Dragonkin ruin; it teaches the Anti-Dragon Shield recipe and is a story beat for Dragon Slayer. Harralander and Bittercap mushrooms for antipoison grow here. Do not live in the swamp. Visit, fill crates, hop the lodestone home.

Cross on solid ground when you can. Vault guardians here still accept a Bone Club if you have Parry and food.

Fractured Plains

Bronze country. Tin and copper nodes sit on the cracked ground. Smelt bronze at a furnace that has open sky. Velgar’s Rise, the shattered Dragonkin tower, dominates the skyline. You will walk its stairs for Dragon Slayer, but you should not fight the dragon in bronze. Grab Paladin recipes from Takla Kara if you want a melee set, then leave.

Garou patrols hit harder than goblins. Bring a bronze weapon you actually trained, not a grey stone club with a bronze name. Plant a lodestone near copper, not on the tower door, so deaths do not cost a full run from Bramblemead.

Stormtouched Highlands

Iron, dragon bones, and a permanent storm. This is Power Level 4, and it is the gear check for Velgar. Mine iron, smith ironplate, and take an iron pickaxe to the dragon carcasses for a Dragon Tooth. Thorny vines at Woodcutting 20 and crumbled walls at Mining 20 open vault mouths here. Chaktan Kara is the Highlands vault.

Do side quests while you fill iron crates. The tooth is the rare Challenge Horn ingredient; do not vendor dragon bones.

Bloodblight Swamp

Velgar’s poison in landscape form. Ambient blight, Abyssal Demons, and Blightwood. Bloodwood Sap for the Challenge Horn comes from the Bloodwood tree here. The Abyssal Whip path (spine, swamp thread, poison ichor, shards, a core) is the melee prize. Drink antipoison before you step off the lodestone. Kletterbuja Kara sits in the south.

Most groups take iron from the Highlands, then sap from Bloodblight, then Velgar.

Fellhollow

Opens after you finish Dragon Slayer and drop Velgar. Steel tier, undead, and a colder north. Ashien’s Watch and the Wise Old Man start the next primary quest, Withering Heights. Steel weapons and armour are the expected floor. Vaults here sit at Power Level 5. Do not skip steel to rush mithril; the trash packs in Fellhollow will send you home in a gravestone.

Dowdun Reach

Mithril, blue dragonhide, mystic robes, and the Black Knight Titan. Dedicated servers and the 99 skill cap arrived with this update. The Titan is the gate into later desert content. Farm blue hides for ranged, mystic pieces for magic, and mithril for melee. Vault density goes up. If your Construction is lagging, this is the last comfortable region to finish Eye of Oculus and oak pieces before desert heat.

Umbral Sands

Adamant, red dragonhide, Infinity robes, and sunscorch. Shade, night travel, and Summon Shelter matter more than extra hitpoints. Fuzan, the blazing tyrant, hunts after the corrupted sun sets. The Fight Cave / Trials of Fuzan is the desert set-piece; clear waves, then the dragon. Nightmare Crucible is the repeatable wave arena that feeds 1.0 prep. Yew wood and adamant bars are the crafting floor.

Finish Umbral Sands before you think about Kuldra. The desert is the last major Early Access region. Gear here is still not rune.

Scorned Wilderness (1.0)

Scheduled with 1.0 on 15 September 2026. Kuldra, the Dragon Queen, lives here. Rune armour, black dragonhide, and ancestral robes are the expected raid floor. The weapons tier list and armour tier list will shift when rune and dragon pieces go live; use them as the current Early Access ranking until that patch.

The route, compressed: leather and bone in Bramblemead, clay and shield recipe in Whispering Swamp, bronze in Fractured Plains, iron and a dragon tooth in Stormtouched Highlands, blightwood and sap in Bloodblight, Velgar, steel in Fellhollow, mithril in Dowdun Reach, adamant and Fuzan in Umbral Sands, then the raid. Skip a metal tier and the next vault will tell you. Follow the progression tool if you hate reading; follow this page if you want to know why the order exists.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What order should I clear the regions?

Bramblemead Valley, Whispering Swamp, Fractured Plains, Stormtouched Highlands, Bloodblight Swamp, then Velgar, then Fellhollow, Dowdun Reach, Umbral Sands, and the Scorned Wilderness at 1.0.

Can I fight Velgar in bronze?

You can walk Velgar's Rise in bronze, but the fight is a Power Level 4 iron check. Get ironplate, antipoison, and the Challenge Horn first. See the Dragon Slayer guide.

When does Fellhollow unlock?

After you defeat Velgar and turn in Dragon Slayer. Steel crafting and the northern quests sit behind that kill.

Is the Scorned Wilderness playable in Early Access?

No. Jagex scheduled the raid and Kuldra for 1.0 on 15 September 2026. Umbral Sands is the last major region before that fight.

Where do I track gear tiers while I climb?

Use the progression checklist plus the weapons and armour tier lists. This walkthrough is the region order those lists assume.
